For the Descendants of John "Jack" Johnson exploring the past, sharing the current, and reuniting family.
Henry Johnson 1844-1925
Birth
Henry was born enslaved in Alabama in 1844. He was the son of John Johnson and Carolina.
Year 1856
Henry was distributed upon the death of his slave owner in 1856 to Sarah V.C. R(h)ea born in 1848. She is the granddaughter of John Caldwell Johns(t)on. Her mother Louisa Johnson Rhea (1834-1855) was deceased. Since Sarah was a minor she and her slaves were under guardianship of Mary M. A. Johnson's husband Samuel T. Carpenter in Greene County, Alabama. Then after his Civil War death in 1862 his brother James became their guardian. Sarah later married Thomas Bibb and took Carpenter's to Alabama Supreme Court for dispute of inheritance money.
